MEP Engineering & Design

Revit & BIM Coordination

MEP models coordinated with architectural and structural information so design conflicts can be addressed before construction.

Overview

A shared model is useful when it helps the team make decisions. TPS uses Revit and BIM coordination to develop mechanical, electrical, and plumbing layouts alongside the architectural and structural models. Clash detection brings routing and equipment conflicts into the design conversation while changes can still be made on screen. Model responsibilities, exchange formats, and issue dates are established at kickoff.

What's included

Scope of work

Revit modeling for the agreed MEP disciplines

Architectural and structural model coordination

Duct, piping, equipment, and electrical routing review

Clash detection and coordination issue tracking

Drawing and equipment schedule coordination

Model exchange and issue-stage planning

Methodology

How the engagement runs

We agree on inputs, responsibilities, and deliverables before the work begins, then keep the design decisions connected through each stage.

Revit & BIM Coordination: how the engagement runs

  1. 1Agree on the model requirements
Confirm which disciplines TPS will model, the available backgrounds, exchange formats, model detail, and submission schedule with the design team.
  2. 2Develop and coordinate the model
Place systems and equipment against the current architectural and structural information. Identify the interfaces that need a design decision.
  3. 3Review and resolve clashes
Run coordination reviews, document conflicts, and work through routing and equipment changes with the responsible disciplines.
  4. 4Issue coordinated information
Provide the agreed model, drawings, and coordination findings at the defined milestone. Identify open items that depend on other design inputs.

FAQ

Common questions

Does TPS work in Revit?+

Yes. TPS uses Revit for MEP modeling and coordination against architectural and structural information. The scope establishes the required model detail, deliverables, and exchange milestones.

Is BIM coordination the same as a trade fabrication model?+

A design coordination model and a fabrication model serve different purposes. We agree on model responsibilities and detail at kickoff; fabrication modeling is not assumed to be part of an MEP design assignment.

Can BIM eliminate all construction conflicts?+

Coordination helps identify design conflicts before the field sees them, but its effectiveness depends on the quality and completeness of the inputs. Existing conditions, later equipment substitutions, and field changes still need review during construction.
